Imagine that you have to flee from the UK and end up in a small city in the middle of Russia or China, with hardly any money and not knowing how to speak the language. You are also lonely, missing your family and friends. You have recently had traumatic experiences which is why you have fled from the UK. Can you imagine what it would mean to you to be welcomed on arrival in your new country by somebody speaking your language who offers to show you around the city and put you in contact with people and places offering support and friendship?
Along with the Red Cross and other local groups which support asylum seekers, the City of Sanctuary is involved in a project which aims to do exactly this.
